SBE wins John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition 2012

John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition 2012. Twenty-four Schools. One unforgettable experience. One winner: Maastricht University SBE!!! Congratulations to the team: Fabian Leyhausen, Kristina Brennecke, Nina Scherl, Svenja Geisen and the team advisor Sabine Janssen.

February 20th to February 26th, 2012: twenty-four top business schools from around the world descended upon Montreal for the 2012 John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition. Teams of four students, representing each school, were tasked with finding solutions to real world business problems. The reward? An unmatched learning experience, the prestigious JMUCC Trophy and bragging rights as one of the top business schools in the world.

 

The competition was organized by a group of undergraduate students. JMUCC was divided into two sections: a round-robin format and a gruelling 24-hour research case. Throughout the round-robin, teams tackled case studies on Montreal/ Canada based companies. Schools were given 3-hours of preparation time, following which they presented their recommendations to top executives from the actual company. The Maastricht University SBE team won every head-to-head case during the competition.

 

For the research case, team’s had 24-hours to prepare a detailed plan for the a consultancy company specialized in the global mining industry. Participants were tasked with the daunting challenge of finding a solution for the HRM issue of attracting new employees and engineers to overcome the backlog problem, all the while attempting to keep the winning organizational culture within the company. Teams then presented to a panel of 9 judges including Golder’s Executives. In the final round, SBE’s main opponents were the University of Hong Kong Science & Technology and Carlton University.

 

The winning team of JMUCC 2012 is Maastricht University SBE, represented by Kristina Brennecke, Fabian Leyhausen, Svenja Geisen and Nina Scherl and the team advisor Sabine Janssen. Congratulations team with this excellent performance!! SBE is proud to be represented by such a professional and excellent team!! This is the fourth time that a team of the SBE has won an International Business Case Competition! The participation and the success of the SBE in these competitions is very important for the reputation of our school on a global level and it strengthens the relationships and network of the SBE with other universities worldwide.
